Sustainability
Sustainability is an issue that effects us all. In fact, nothing is more vital. At Amacon we’ve operated by the mantra “live well.” That includes raising quality of life for all our customers and especially future generations. That’s why it’s so important being “green minded.” Parkside Village is a shining example of communities to come where residents consume less of our precious resources. Where residents can embrace the vast expanse of green space. And where residents walk to shops and services instead of getting into a car. We recognize that we’ve inherited the earth. And being a Canada Green Building Council Member and by adhering to green programs, we can give a better planet to future generations.
SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES
SITE SELECTION
The site is not part of a Provincial Land Reserve or on environmentally sensitive lands. It will be located within an urban context and is supported by a highly developed urban infrastructure
DEVELOPMENT DENSITY
The site serves to maximize the available density on the land and maximize the efficient use of the lands within the City Centre while minimizing urban sprawl
PROTECT AND RESTORE OPEN SPACE
2.5 acres of parkland will provide a habitat for wildlife with trees and greenery while also improving air quality and providing open spaces for everyone to enjoy within the community
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ACCESS
Parkside Village is close to Mississauga Transit and GO Transit depots. As well, it is a short bus ride to the GO Train system to encourage commuting and reducing the carbon footprint
WALKABILITY
Walking proximity to public transportation, retail, offices and recreational areas
BICYCLE STORAGE AND END-OF-TRIP FACILITY
Convenient storage lockers and an end-of-trip facility will be provided allowing for bicycle storage and shower facilities to encourage bicycle use as an alternative form of transportation
LIMIT PARKING CAPACITY
Parking requirements will meet zoning by-laws and encourage alternative means of transportation
GREEN ROOF SYSTEM
Where feasible all portions of the roof will have a high solar reflectance through the use of plant material to create a “green roof ” reducing temperature extremes inside the buildings and providing attractive views from suites
CONSTRUCTION WASTE DIVERSION
A construction waste management plan will be implemented by Amacon during the construction process to maximize the diversion of recyclable material from landfill sites
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
Amacon takes stringent erosion and sediment control measures to prevent loss of topsoil from the site and to contain the dust within the site minimizing the dirt that results from the winds
GREEN SITE MAINTENANCE
A comprehensive site maintenance program will be implemented minimizing environmental impact
CONSERVATION STRATEGIES
STORM WATER MANAGEMENT TREATMENT
Storm water will be collected and retained for use in the irrigation of the landscape plant material of each building
HEAT ISLAND EFFECT (NON-ROOF AND ROOF)
A total of 100% of the parking area will be contained in the building eliminating the heat island effect, which results from parking lots and will also serve to improve the appearance of the building
LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION
The water used for irrigation will be a combination of retained storm water and recycled water
INDOOR WATER USE REDUCTION
Reduction of water consumption will be achieved with high-efficiency toilets and water reducing fixtures within suites
TRI- SORTER RECYCLING
A tri-sorter system will be installed and accessible to each residential floor allowing for convenient separation and disposal of recyclables and refuse
REGIONAL MATERIALS
Construction materials where available will be sourced from the GTA to minimize the carbon footprint associated with the shipment of materials
ECO-FRIENDLY HOMES
LIGHTING
Suites will be equipped with compact fluorescent fixtures and other high efficiency lighting designs to improve lighting efficiency and reduce electricity consumption and costs
APPLIANCES
Suites feature Energy Star appliances including fridge, dishwasher and optional washer/dryer upgrade package to reduce energy consumption and costs
WATER CONSERVATION
High efficiency toilets to reduce water use
MECHANICAL FIXTURES
Low flow, high pressure balanced and temperature faucets and shower controls use less water therefore reducing water consumption
CARPET
Carpets certified by Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Indoor Air Quality Test Program ensuring low emissions
FLOOR SURFACES
Adhesive-free hard surface flooring for easy maintenance to reduce dust, allergies and off-gassing in suites resulting in improved indoor air quality
CONTROLLABILITY OF SYSTEMS, PERIMETER
Suites will have operable windows allowing for air movement and reducing air conditioning dependence

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
WINDOW SYSTEMS
Windows will be double glazed low E energy efficient systems offering superior insulation against heat and cold
HYDRO SUBMETERING
Each suite will be individually metered allowing residents to control their own energy consumption and as a result, control energy usage and costs
CO2 MONITORING
CO2 monitors and controls will be installed in the amenity areas and the parking garage to trigger air exhaust only as required reducing energy consumption, costs and lessening wear on equipment
VIEW OF 90% OF SPACE
Suites will have window systems, which allow for maximum natural light reducing dependency on internal suite lighting reducing electricity use
THERMAL COMFORT ASHRAE 55
Suites are equipped with individual unit control of centralized heating and air conditioning allowing residents to incorporate energy-conserving strategies reducing heating and cooling costs without sacrificing comfort
BUILDING ENERGY MANAGEMENT
Buildings will be equipped with high efficiency boilers to better reduce gas consumption and utility costs
